The 327 FIS base is almost done. I used a 35cm x 20 cm MDF poster base, reinforced inside. I started with a layer of MiG concrete texture past - a big mistake. The texture is way out of scale even for 1/35. So I sanded most of it and spread a new layer of wood putty using a large spatula. The small grains produced an interesting texture which I guess emulates well-used concrete slabs. Landing strips concrete should not flake off or break, but this is a parking spot. Anyway, after that, concrete colors were airbrushed with gray tones, then two oil washes, a light brown and a dark brown. Once cleaned up, the washes show the texture really well. An almost black oil wash was applied over the slab joints. I developed a more elaborate recipe for tarmac seams (see comments below) but decided to go simpler here. I also added some oil/fuel stains here and there. After drying, everything was flat coated and I proceeded with drybrushing in light gray/brown colors. The drain cover is a small piece of anti-slip photoetched leftover.
Simple base like these are easy a enjoyable to make
